Spring is here! I guess it’s officially been here for 5 days according to the calendar, and it’s been a beautiful spring-like week–except for the 39 degree morning yesterday! I don’t always pay attention to official dates on the calendar, but when the henbit blooms, I know it’s spring.
Truthfully, I never knew this cute little flower was called “henbit” when I was growing up. I’m not a scientist–more specifically I’m not a botanist–but when we homeschooled our kids, together we identified many of the wildflowers (weeds to some) that grew all around our property, and henbit was one of the many that thrived in our back yard.
This little flower is a beautiful purple-pink-magenta color, and when collected in a child’s hands, makes a beautiful bouquet–of which I’ve been the lucky recipient of more than once–both as a mother and as a second grade teacher.
What signs do you look for to determine spring’s arrival?
