Did you know there are amazing people in this world who love to serve? And they do it for the opportunity it gives them to be of service to others–with no expectation of getting anything in return. Their “return” is difficult to put into words or measure materially. Brian and I know people who fit this definition and what’s even better, we get to serve alongside them every week!
For example, there are people who live in Stillwater and work in Perry who stop by Old School Bagel in Stillwater on their way to work and deliver our bagel order before we open at 8am. They delivered during the recent winter storms when the roads were treacherous and our cars were buried in snowdrifts, but they also deliver when road conditions are perfect and there’s not a cloud in the sky!
In addition to bagel deliverers, we have volunteers who serve at HeBrews throughout the day. They make smoothies & sandwiches; they wipe tables and wash & dry dishes; they clean restrooms; they hang sheetrock; and they set up for church experiences. These people embody the verse from 1 Peter 4:10 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
How will you serve someone today?
