It’s Chai Tea Time!

08 Feb

As the weather has gotten colder, the chai tea orders have steadily increased. Our coffee vendor, Henderson Coffee, provides Oregon Chai Latte Tea Concentrate for all of our hot chai tea drinks.  We use Cappuccine Brand Spiced Chai for our frozen drinks–which are very popular in the summertime.

Before we opened HeBrews, I had tried several different types of chai tea from local coffee shops in Stillwater, but the very first chai tea I had was in Oregon back in 1992. My sister-in-law, Indira, made her special recipe and I fell in love with it! She ground up a mix of spices–I particularly loved the cardamom–and added it to brewed black tea along with milk & sugar. Delish!

We’ve discovered that HeBrews’ customers order chai tea many different ways. I’ll list them in order of popularity:

  1. Chai TeaLatte + Vanilla + Cinnamon on top
  2. Chai Tea Latte + Cinnamon on top
  3. Dirty Chai Tea Latte (espresso + chai tea frothed w/ milk)
  4. Dirty Chai Tea Latte + Vanilla + Cinnamon on top
  5. Chai Tea Soy Latte
  6. Frozen Chai + Whipped Cream

Brian and I have determined (from our observations & memory for whatever that’s worth!) that 9 out of 10 of our Chai Tea drinkers are female and the majority of them choose skim milk to froth with their tea. I’m waiting for someone to try a different flavor with their tea besides vanilla–perhaps caramel,  amaretto or toasted marshmallow. One adventurous teen tried raspberry last fall, but after deciding it tasted a little like cough medicine, went back to vanilla the very next time.

What flavor will it be for you? Come on down to HeBrews and enjoy a cup of hot chai tea with us.
